Bakuchiol: The Retinol Alternative You’ve Been Looking For

Posted by Pure Cosmetica on 22nd Jan 2023

Retinol has been reputable for being the go-to ingredient in anti-ageing skincare, but ultimately causes skin irritation and dryness that stops most from using it, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is the gentle retinol alternative that has been clinically proven to have the same anti-ageing benefits to the skin as retinol by improving skin firmness, collagen production, elasticity and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The best part? It’s better tolerated by the skin without irritation issues, which makes it safer for those with blemished skin, sensitive skin, rosacea or dermatitis.

What is Bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is a plant-based ingredient extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Babchi Tree (Psoralea corylifolia) which grows throughout India. The Babchi Tree is a popular herb that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to treat various skin conditions.

Benefits of Bakuchiol

A 12-week clinical study published in the British Journal of Dermatology found that Bakuchiol has the same anti-ageing benefits to the skin as retinol by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, and it better tolerated by the skin.

  • Improves skin firmness and elasticity
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces the appearance of pores
  • Evens skin tone and hyperpigmentation
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Better tolerability by sensitive skin
  • Doesn’t dry or irritate the skin

How to use Bakuchiol

Our MULTI-B Face Oil Serum contains 1% Bakuchiol which is the safe and sufficiently active amount to have in skincare products. In addition, our Multi-B formula contains an essential oil blend of 21 oils, including Borage oil, Babassu oil & Kukui Nut oil, which together provide an all-round skin nourishment.

  1. Apply Multi-B Face Oil Serum after your regular serums or moisturiser. Since it’s less irritating than retinol, you can apply in your morning and night skincare routine.

  2. Apply 2 drops of Multi-B on your hands and gently pat onto cheeks, temples, chin and forehead.

  3. Optional: Use with your Gua Sha stone or Quartz roller for a refined facial massage.

We recommend you use a sunscreen in the morning to help protect you from the daily exposure to the sun and UV rays.

Avoid use during pregnancy or breast feeding.
