Benefits of Salicylic Acid in skincare

Posted by Pure Cosmetica on 18th Jan 2023

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) and is derived from the willow bark. It provides a gentle exfoliation, unclogs pores, removes excess oil and calms inflammation, making it best suited for acne-prone and oily skin type.

What are chemical exfoliants

Chemical exfoliation might sound harsh but it’s quite the opposite. It uses chemicals such as acids to remove skin cell build-up from the top layer of the skin and is much gentler than physical exfoliation. The most popular chemical exfoliating acids are beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) and polyhydroxy acid (PHA).

Salicylic Acid is oil soluble which means it gets absorbed deeper into the skin to unclog pores, remove dead skin cells, calm irritations and target the development of future blackheads and whiteheads.

The benefits of Salicylic Acid

  • Removes dead skin cells
  • Unclogs pores
  • Reduces excess oil production
  • Suitable for acne-prone and oily skin
  • Soothes inflammation

How to use Salicylic Acid?

Use your Salicylic Acid products once a week in your evening skincare routine. Introduce slowly into your skincare as it can cause irritation at first. BHAs can increase skin sensitivity to UV damage so always wear sunscreen the following day.

Where to find Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is oil soluble and works in complement with our skincare oil ingredients. Therefore, we’ve added it to our range of Clay Face Masks to provide a deep cleanse and detox for a smooth and softer skin. Meanwhile the botanical oils give a hydration boost and protect skin from damage with their high antioxidant content.

Every skin is unique. Your skin care needs will depend on a range of personal factors. It’s advisable to have your skin checked by a professional every 3 months.
