Smoothie Recipe for a Healthier Skin

Have you ever considered the fact that your skincare can start from within? There is a definite relationship between gut health and the quality of our skin.

This being the case, what we choose to eat and how we take care of our bodies plays a major role in the appearance of our skin. ‘The gut’ refers to the digestive system and is where 70% of our immune system lies as well as where we metabolise hormones, create detoxifying enzymes and neutralise pathogens. It is incredibly important to support the function of the digestive system with healthy and nutrient-rich foods, proper sleep and management of stress as these can all have negative effects on your digestive balance.

Clinical studies have shown that when the gut is overrun with bad bacteria it can lead to skin-aggravating inflammation, inducing the potential for acne, redness, sensitivity, and the breakdown of collagen which creates fine lines and wrinkles.

To achieve a healthy gut, the good bacteria in the digestive system must be supported by consuming enough nutrients throughout the day and properly digesting your food. This will help maintain the gut microbiota that is responsible for helping control digestion and benefiting the immune system. Through sustaining a healthy gut, the skin is more moisturised, hydrated and protected which provides you a glowing and youthful look.

Maintaining a healthy diet throughout the week may not be the easiest of tasks, however one of our favourite ways to get a good dose of health and vitality for our skin is with a smoothie in the morning. We love this recipe as it tastes amazing, is filling and the ingredients really are food for skincare as our skin glows.

Please remember everybody is different and you should explore and experiment with what works best for you!
